WHAT TO LOOK FOR >> Gilmour and Lake Catholic meet for the third time this season. The teams split their meetings during the regular season in North Coast League play. Their rubber match will determine if the Lancers advance to their first-ever state final four as members of Division II or if the Cougars move to their third consecutive state berth. Gilmour won the Gates Mills District and defeated Richfield Revere, 3-0, in its regional semifinal Nov. 1. Coach Danny Coughlin’s team relies on a number of sophomores and a standout freshman in Kathryn Randorf. The Lancers have grown into a versatile group with weapons all over the court. Their leadership is solid behind seniors Megan Brzozowski and Kenzie O’Connor. Lake Catholic claimed its third straight Jefferson District crown and beat Mantua Crestwood, 3-1, Nov. 1. Pitt commit Ashley Browske leads the Cougars, who have developed other options to become a dangerous offensive team. When Ainslie McLaughlin and Kylie Snyder are scoring from the middle or Taylor Resetar is hitting well on the right side, Lake Catholic’s offense finds another gear as setter Katy Yopko distributes the ball. Gilmour and Lake Catholic are familiar with each other and their regional final promises a match filled with highlevel volleyball.
