John Carroll’s Conner Bogard and Notre Dame College’s Marvelle Ross earned Player of the Week honors this week.

Bogard, a junior defensive lineman from Benedictine, was the Ohio Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, and Ross, a junior reciever/returner from VASJ, was the Mountain East Offensive Player of the Week.

In a win against Heidelberg Nov. 3, Bogard finished second on the team with eight total tackles, including a team-leading four solo tackles. His three sacks set a career high. For the season, Bogard is second on the team in tackles for loss (11) and sacks (6.5).

In a win at Virginia-Wise Nov. 3, Ross had seven receptions for 161 yards and two touchdowns. For the season, Ross has 55 catches for 856 yards and nine touchdowns. As a kick/ punt returner, he has 30 combined kickoff/punt returns for 527 yards, including three punt returns for touchdowns.

Time changes

The kickoff times for the John Carroll and Case Western Reserve football games Nov. 10 have been changed.

JCU’s rivalry game against visiting Baldwin Wallace at Don Shula Stadium is now a 1 p.m. kickoff instead of 1:30.

The change was made to accommodate an evening NCAA men’s soccer games at Don Shula Stadium, where the JCU team also will be playing.

Case’s rivalry game against visiting Carnegie Mellon at DiSanto Field is now a 5:30 p.m. start time. The change was made to accommodate the Case men’s soccer team, which is hosting an NCAA tournament game.

A lot is riding on the games for JCU, BW and Case. All are 8-1, and eyeing a possible NCAA Division III playoff spot.

For JCU and BW it’s simple: The winner finishes 9-1, earns bragging rights with the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl trophy, is the Ohio Athletic Conference runner-up to Mount Union, and likely earns an atlarge bid to the D-III playoffs. The loser is all but officially out at 8-2.

For Case, a win earns it a share of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championship with Washington & Jefferson. To get the outright conference title and automatic NCAA bid, the Spartans need to win, and hope Waynesburg defeats W&J.

A win would make Case 9-1, and alive for an at-large bid with the JCU-BW winner, but would likely be a long shot because of factors such as strength of schedule.
