Storm open G-MAC play with a win

LEC women’s basketball coach Brooklyn Kohlheim got two things she wanted out of her team’s 72-70 victory over Alderson Broaddus at the Osborne Center.

First and most important for Kohlheim and the Storm it was a win in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

LEC improved to 3-2 while snapping a two-game skid. The Rattlers slid to 0-4.

Kohlheim also got some teaching moments out of this game she can share on the practice floor with her young, developing squad.

Some of those lessons will focus on protecting leads once they’ve been built. The Storm prevailed despite not doing too terribly good of a job playing with leads against the Rattlers.

“We need to learn to live in the moment during games, not in the past,” Kohlheim said.

Junior point guard Josie Chaddock scored a gamehigh 20 points to pace the Storm. Her free throws with 10 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference in a back-and-forth contest.

Sophomore forward Breanna Bauer finished with 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Storm. Freshman guard Madison Mattimore scored 10 of LEC’s 21 bench points.

Senior forward Yasmin Norman paced the Rattlers with 16 points.

“We need to learn to live in the moment during games, not in the past.”
