What: NCAA Division II quarterfin­al game When: Noon, Dec. 1 Where: NDC’s Mueller Field Records: Slippery Rock 112, NDC 12-0 On deck: Winner advances to an NCAA D-II semifinal against an opponent and at a site to be determined. NDC update: The Falcons won their first-ever NCAA football playoff game on Nov. 24 when they beat visiting Hillsdale, 19-14, on Markus Hood’s TD reception with two minutes to play and a defensive stand in the final seconds. “You could feel our guys left it all out on the field,” said NDC coach Mike Jacobs. “I think that’s a good learning experience. Our guys are dialed in this week, and they realize how hard it is to get to this point when there’s only eight teams left in the country and you’re playing for a chance at the final four.” ... Freshman running back Jaleel McLaughlin leads the nation in D-II with 2,074 rushing yards. He had 191 vs. Hillsdale . ... NDC’s defense has been stingy of late. In its last five regular-season games, it allowed an average of 9.8 points, then 14 to Hillsdale in its playoff opener. In that game, it also registered six sacks and gave up negative 2 yards rushing . ... ... Defensive lineman Sha’haun Williams has been mostly unblockabl­e this season. The junior has 55 stops, 16 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss . . ... Junior wide receiver Marvelle Ross (VASJ) surpassed 1,000 yards receiving for the season after seven receptions and 108 yards against Hillsdale. For the season, he has 67 receptions, 1,013 yards and 12 total touchdowns . ... Redshirt freshman QB Chris Brimm has been efficient all season with 2,128 yards, 21 TD passes and just seven intercepti­ons. Slipper Rock update: Slippery Rock is the Cinderella team of the D-II playoffs with two victories as the No. 7 seed in Super Region One — 20-14 over No. 3 LIU Post in Round 1, then an impressive 59-20 victory against No. 6 seed New Haven in a Nov. 24 quarterfin­al game . ... There is a connection between NDC coach Mike Jacobs and Slipper Rock’s Shawn Lutz. Jacobs’ late father Mike recruited Lutz when he was an assistant coach at West Virginia. Lutz eventually played tight end at WVU . ... The Rock’s top players are running back Wes Hills (1,560 yards, 16 TDs), quarterbac­k Roland Rivers (2,544 yards, 27 TDs), and receivers Henry Litwin (786 yards, 8 TDs) and Jermaine Wynn (703 yards, 8 TDs).
