Willoughby man accused of fleeing scene of crash, driving through a garage
A 38-year-old Willoughby man is accused of fleeing the scene of one crash and then crashing into a garage.
The Willoughby Police department responded to call for a car crashing into a house on Brighton Path around 1:15 p.m., Nov. 29.
Officers were initially responding to a three-car crash on state Route 2 when the call came in, according to the department. They arrived on scene to see a silver Subaru SUV had driven straight through a three-car garage into the backyard of a residence.
Jeffrey Francis was standing outside of his SUV unharmed, though the vehicle itself was on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished by the city’s fire department, police said.
Through their investigation the officers reported they learned that Francis was involved in the Route 2 crash and fled the scene, exiting onto Lost Nation Road and then down Brighton Path for an unknown reason.
Francis was arrested for OVI, leaving the scene of a crash, reckless operation and driving under suspension, according to police. All charges are misdemeanors. He was arraigned in Willoughby Municipal Court Nov. 30. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Dec. 6.
No one was injured in the home that was struck, police said.
