Chris Lillstrung has this week’s high school hockey content, including one swap in the Top of the Crop, area statistical leaders and an abbreviated roundup from a light-volume week.

Some tidbits from area hockey squads after a fairly light-volume week:

• Mayfield snapped a seven-game losing skid with a 5-4 victory Dec. 16 over Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin at Gilmour. Kaden Jeppe had two goals and two assists for the Wildcats, and Hunter Jeppe contributed two goals and an assist.

• In what may not sound like it but really is a sign of encouragement, Brush already has three games that have not been decided by mercy rule, including a 6-0 loss Dec. 14 to Westlake. The Arcs had two such games all of last year. Goaltender Mike Kornet had 137 saves in his team’s first two games this winter against Blue South foes Bay and Brooklyn.

• Kenston’s 4-2 loss Dec. 16 to Hudson at the Kent Holiday tournament was its first against a Greater Cleveland opponent this season. The Bombers’ prior two losses were to Thomas Worthington and St. Charles at the Midwest Thanksgiving Classic.

• Lake Catholic’s 3-0 loss to Rocky River on Dec. 12 was the teams’ first meeting in nearly three years and just their third since the 2003-04 season.

• With a 3-0-1 run in the Padua Holiday tournament, University is now 19-7-7 at that tournament since the 2010-11 season.
