Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin recently announced the hiring of new boys and girls track and field coaches. Pietro DeMichele is taking over the Lions’ boys program, and Emily Mazzaferri has been tapped to lead the girls program.

“We are very excited to bring on two quality individuals to head up our track programs,” NDCL athletic director Jim Clark said in a prepared statement. “Both individuals bring a unique set of coaching skills that will provide a positive experience for our track and field student-athletes.

“We thank Coach Mazzaferri and Coach DeMichele for taking on this responsibility and challenge them to grow the two programs.”

DeMichele previously worked as the NDCL jumps coach and is a 2004 graduate of Mercyhurst.

Mazzaferri is a 2014 Mount Union graduate and was a middle-distance standout for the Purple Raiders. She was a four-time Division III All-American, three on Mount’s 4x400meter relay and for a sixth in the 800 in 2012 D-III indoor nationals. The Canton GlenOak graduate was also a 14-time all-OAC honoree.

In addition to being a personal trainer, DeMichele is a health and wellness aide at NDCL and also serves as an assistant coach for boys soccer and girls basketball. Mazzaferri is a counselor at the school.

NDCL has recorded six individual-event and two relay state top fours alltime in track and field, including Emma Liberatore taking third in the Division II long jump a year ago as a sophomore with a best jump of 17 feet, 8 1/2 inches.

“We are very excited to bring on two quality individuals to head up our track programs. Both individuals bring a unique set of coaching skills that will provide a positive experience for our track and field student-athletes.”
