A few of the top performances by area swimmers not already featured in coverage from the SPIRE Winter Invitational on Dec. 15:

• Riverside’s Charles Marshall returned to ‘A’ final competition with a pair of solid swims, taking sixth in 200-yard freestyle (1:49.92) and 100 backstroke (56.12) and swimming legs on the Beavers’ 200 medley relay, which was sixth, and 200 free relay, which was fifth. Marshall, who missed a large portion of last year due to injury, went 26.88 on his opening 50 and 29.24 on the back end of 100 back. Marshall had ACT testing Dec. 8, so he had to compete in the ‘B’ session of the Viking Invitational in sprint free.

• Chagrin Falls’ John Cashy was sixth in 100 butterfly with a 54.22. His 29.37 closing 50 marked a 1.15 drop from when he was 10th in the event at the Division II Cleveland State District a year ago.

• Mayfield’s Kevin Morgan was sixth in 100 breast in 1:02.62. He recorded a 33.23 closing 50, which was .09 off when he was 12th at the D-I CSU District as a junior.

• Madison’s Collin Douglas made it to the 200 IM ‘A’ final, placing ninth with a 2:06.25. That time is a .57 drop from the D-I CSU District last year and featured a 30.16 free anchor, which was 1.15 faster vs. CSU.

• Area ‘B’ final winners were the Mayfield boys 200 medley relay, Hawken’s Isaac Esposito (100 free), Madan Morris (500 free), Jacob Esposito (100 back) and Sydney Bare (500 free) and Chagrin Falls’ Michael Tropf (100 breast).
