Library plans 12 months of donation drives
To celebrate its 200th anniversary, Mentor Public Library will host a donation drive each month.
To celebrate its 200th anniversary, Mentor Public Library announced it is hosting an item donation drive for a different local nonprofit each month in 2019.
The calendar is:
• January — McKinley Community Outreach Center, based in Willoughby, which provides food, furniture, medical supplies, household goods and more to those in need.
• February — Medwish International, based in Cleveland, which saves both lives and the environment by repurposing discarded medical supplies and equipment.
• March — Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers, based in Mentor, provides a wide range of services for adults whose lives have been affected by their own or another’s use of alcohol or other drugs, or by mental illness.
• April — Lake County Free Clinic, based in Painesville, is the only provider of free medical and dental care to uninsured and underinsured northeast Ohio residents.
• May — Hannah’s Home, based in Mentor, is a safe, nurturing maternity home for single pregnant women ages 18 and older.
• June — Lake Humane Society, based in Mentor, is a safe haven for homeless, abandoned, abused or neglected animals.
• July — Project Hope, based in Painesville, provides emergency shelter, care and guidance for the homeless.
• August — Big Brother Big Sister Northeast Ohio, based in Painesville, provides mentors to children in Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties.
• September — Lake County Council on Aging, based in Mentor, is dedicated to serving the needs of older adults, people with disabilities, their families and caregivers.
• October — Forbes House is the only domestic violence shelter in Lake County. It gives survivors a place to heal and rebuild their lives.
• November — Lake County Board of DD/Deepwood, including Broadmoor School, provides a broad range of services for individuals with developmental disabilities, as well as their families and caretakers.
• December — Can Your Fines food drive and Toys for Tots
Each month, the items that patrons donate will support clients of these locally based nonprofit organizations. In turn, these organization support those who need it the most.
