Son under evaluation after mom’s death

The son of a Mayfield Heights woman is being evaluated at a medical institutio­n after she was struck and killed by an automobile in a garage.

The incident occurred just before 5 a.m. on Christmas morning at 1639 Windsor Drive. The woman, 61-year-old Theresa Varone, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Mayfield Heights police.

The son was taken from the scene. Mayfield Heights police reported the incident as a suspected homicide to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office. No charges have yet been filed.

Mayfield Heights police said the investigat­ion is ongoing. Anyone with informatio­n is asked to contact the department at 440-442-2323.

Man facing charges in Mentor

A 25-year-old man from Cleveland Heights will face felony and misdemeano­r charges after being arraigned Dec. 27 in Mentor Municipal Court, records show.

Odom D. Octavious, of 3314 Beechwood Ave., is being charged with a fourth-degree felony of traffickin­g cocaine, a fifthdegre­e felony of possession of cocaine, a first-degree misdemeano­r OVI, a fourth-degree misdemeano­r of illegal use or possession of drug parapherna­lia and three minor misdemeano­rs of window tint, turns at intersecti­ons and display of plates.

He had been arrested by Mentor police following a Dec. 22 incident.

If convicted of the felonies alone, Octavious could spend 2 ½ years behind

bars.

His bond was posted after being set at $70,000/10 percent cash or surety and he has a preliminar­y hearing scheduled for Jan. 3, court records state.

Mentor man accused of felony theft

A 35-year-old Mentor man was arraigned Dec. 27 on felony theft charges in Willoughby Municipal Court, records show.

David W. Hodge Jr., of 6614 Reynolds Road, is being charged with a fourthdegr­ee felony of theft. Hodge had been arrested by Eastlake police in relation to a Dec. 18 incident.

If convicted of the felony, Hodge could face up to 1 ½ years in prison.

His personal bond was set at $3,500 and he has preliminar­y hearing scheduled for Jan. 22, according to court documents.

Man facing firearms charge in Willoughby

A 25-year-old Cleveland man is facing charges in Willoughby Municipal Court in relation to an October incident.

Aaron S. Curbelo, of 2236 W. 103rd St., is being charged with a fourthdegr­ee felony of improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle and two minor misdemeano­rs of possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana drug parapherna­lia.

If convicted of the felony alone, Curbelo could face up to 1 ½ years in prison.

He has a continued preliminar­y hearing for the felony charge and a continued pre-trial for the misdemeano­rs scheduled for Jan. 2, court documents state.
