Change of plea hearing scheduled in Mentor gun store break-in

One of the men allegedly involved in a Mentor gun store break-in has a change of plea hearing scheduled for Feb. 11.

Keith Ford, 21, of Cleveland is one of two men and two juveniles accused of attempting to break in to Silverado Arms, 7255 Center St., on July 16.

Ford was indicted by the Lake County grand jury Sept. 10 on first-degree felony assault; second-degree felony attempted grand theft when the property is stolen; third-degree felony failure to comply with police order; third-degree felony tampering with evidence; fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property; fourth-degree felony failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer; and fifth-degree felony breaking and entering.

Police say that Ford was the getaway driver.

When officers arrived on scene shortly after 5 a.m. they saw a vehicle come from the back of the building.

Ford allegedly refused to stop for officers and drove directly at them, police said.

Two of the officers on scene fired a total of four rounds at the vehicle.

Ford will appear at the hearing in front of Lake

County Common Pleas Court Judge Eugene A. Lucci.

The judge also sentenced Ford’s co-defendant James Ogletree in December.

He received a 20 ½ -year prison sentence from Lucci.

Ogletree, 23, of Cleveland, pleaded guilty in November to second-degree felony attempted grand theft when the property stolen is a firearm, second-degree felony robbery, thirddegre­e felony failure to comply with a police order, and fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property.

As part of the plea agreement, charges of fifth-degree

felony breaking and entering, fourth-degree felony failure to comply with a police order and fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property.

Ogletree was recently arraigned in the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court for his alleged role in stealing 70 guns from Eastlake’s Sherwin Shooting Sports in July 2017.

He is also faces charges stemming from thefts from two other gun stores in Cuyahoga County, stealing Mercedes vehicles from two Cuyahoga County businesses and a April 2018 murder in Cleveland.
