Port Huron too much for the Ice Breakers

- Staff report

Host Port Huron routed the Ice Breakers, 7-2, on Feb. 10.

The teams played three games in three days, with Port Huron taking two of the three. Mentor (9-25) has lost seven of its past eight games.

The Ice Breakers scored 11 goals in a victory on Feb. 9, but the momentum did not join them on the bus ride to Port Huron. They outshot the Prowlers, 4432, but could only get two past Cory Simons, who was named No. 1 star for the game.

Lake Catholic graduate Declan Conway tied the game at 1-1 almost halfway through the second period. The Prowlers then rattled off six straight goals before Mentor’s Brody Duncan scored in the final minute.

The Ice Breakers return to Mentor Civic Arena on Feb. 15 to face Carolina.
