Trevor Bauer wins arbitration, $13M in ‘19
Starting pitcher Trevor Bauer will earn $13 million in 2019 after winning his arbitration case with the Indians on Feb. 13.
Bauer was paid $6,525,000 last season after winning in arbitration a year ago. The Indians offered him $11 million for 2019 after his spectacular 2018 season in which he went 12-6 and posted a glittering 2.12 ERA.
The huge raise Bauer is getting, along with the increase from $623,200 in 2018 to the $10.55 million shortstop Francisco Lindor will be paid in 2019, are two examples why Indians president Chris Antonetti started the offseason by trading catcher Yan Gomes and designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion, among others, to cut payroll.
Starting pitcher Corey Kluber is getting a $7 million raise to $17 million as stipulated in the contract he signed in 2015.
Bauer will be arbitration eligible in 2020 and then will become an unrestricted free agent in 2021. The 28-year-old right-hander is 52-35 with the Indians over the last four seasons. He was on the disabled list from Aug. 12-Sept. 20 last season recovering from a stress fracture after being hit with a line drive in a game with the Chicago White Sox.
The Indians pitchers and catchers reported to
spring training in Goodyear, Ariz., on Feb. 12.
The rest of the team is due in camp on Feb. 16. The first full-squad workout is scheduled for Feb. 18.
