Gilmour announced the hiring of Anton Trifonovs as its girls soccer coach on March 5.

Trifonovs succeeds Joe Ciuni, who stepped down after last season. Ciuni guided the Lancers to the Division III state championship in 2016 and D-II district finals each of the last two falls. Gilmour went 12-4-2 this past fall.

Trifonovs was the Hawken girls coach for the last five seasons. It was announced in November he would not be returning to the Hawks’ touchline this coming fall, being succeeded by Heidi Wilbrandt.

“For me, the motivation for leading Gilmour girls soccer is fairly simple — it is the players,” Trifonovs said in a prepared statement. “This program will not be about me as a leader. It will be about the players I lead.”

He has coached with CSA Impact since 2009 and is the goalkeeping director at Force Sports.

Trifonovs, who holds a USSF ‘B’ license, played seven years professionally in Latvia and Estonia. Internationally, he was capped on Latvia’s youth and senior national sides.

“We are so excited to have Coach Trifonovs at the helm of our girls soccer program,” Gilmour athletic director Sean O’Toole said. “He is a true student of the game of soccer, who brings a wealth of coaching and player experience. Our girls soccer program is strong, and I can’t wait to see what these girls are able to do under his tutelage.”
