High school girls basketball player of the year watch list

Here is the list of semifinali­sts for the 2018-19 girls basketball player of the year in The News-Herald area. The award will be handed out March 19 — which is a schedule change from the original announced date — at Hooley House as part of the Varsity Chalk Talk Show. From now until the awards night, we will give updated statistics on the eight semifinali­sts for the award. Finalists will be announced this weekend. This is the current list, in alphabetic­al order:

Scored 21 points in the Rangers’ 64-63 regional semifinal win over Solon, then scored 19 points in the Rangers’ 46-41 loss to Canton Glenoak in the regional final. The sophomore guard finished the season averaging 15.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. She shot 47 percent from the field, 33 percent from the arc (making 48) and 69 percent from the line.

Scored 19 points and had 18 rebounds and three assists in the Panthers’ 6557 loss to North. The senior guard finished the season averaging 29.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 4.0 assists per game. She shot 32 percent from the field and 72 percent from the free-throw line. She has signed to play at Eastern Michigan University

Scored 20 points in the Lancers’ 47-44 loss to Perry. The senior guard finished the season averaging 18.1 points, 5.2 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. She shot 36 percent from the field, 58 percent from the line and 34 percent from the arc. She has signed to play at Detroit Mercy University.

Had six points and 14 rebounds in the Huskies’ 65-41 sectional final loss to Champion. She finished the season averaging 12.0 points, 17.2 rebounds, 2.9 steals, 2.8 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. She shot 38 percent from the field and 53 percent from the line.

Scored 14 points in the Wildcats’ 52-44 loss to Euclid. The senior forward finished the season averaging 16.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals per games. She shot 45 percent from the field, 40 percent from the arc and 87 percent from the line. She made 56 3-pointers.

Had 18 points in the Rangers’ 64-63 regional semifinal win over Solon, then had eight points in the Rangers’ 46-41 regional final loss to Canton GlenOak. The junior guard finished the season averaging 27.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. She shot 47 percent from the field, 40 percent from the 3-point arc (including 85 made) and 84 percent from the line.

Scored six points in the Blue Streaks’ 63-33 loss to Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary. The junior guard finished the season averaging 15.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.5 steals. She shot 45 percent from the field, 62 percent from the line and 38 percent from the arc. She made 26 3-pointers.

Scored 18 points and had 13 rebounds in the Panthers’ 65-47 loss to North. The sophomore forward finished the season averaging 18.3 points, 14 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.
