“Because we get to play against other schools and they all cheer for us.”

For over 10 years, the Broadmoor Bobcats have faced a team of area coaches and have walked away with a victory.

On March 18 the Bobcats carried on that legacy with an 8382 win over their opponents.

With 30 seconds left in the game, the team of local coaches had a one-point lead. But the Bobcats bounced back and the gym erupted into cheers as #2 Adam Maoyard sank the gamewinning shot for Broadmoor.

The matchup against the area coaches was the Bobcats’ 16th game of the season. They typically play games on Friday nights and their season goes from October until April.

the Broadmoor versus coaches matchup. She added that the games the Bobcats play against other local teams help form friendships during the season. “And then at the big game against the coaches, the coaches really start to know our players.”

Madison boys’ basketball head coach Nick Gustin

mentioned that it was his fourth year participating in the game for the area coaches.

“It’s a fantastic thing that Broadmoor does for the kids,” Gustin said during halftime. He added that Madison is one of the local teams that also plays Broadmoor during the rest of their basketball season.

The game against the coaches came down to a close 82-81 with the coaches’ team ahead. After

a final timeout, the Bobcats returned to the court and were able to drive to the basket for a 2-point field goal.

After Broadmoor claimed the win, the crowd burst into cheers as the players celebrated. They shook hands with their opponents and soon after, #77 Zac Watren was awarded as the MVP.

Dylan Richardson answered “Because it’s cool.”

Jonathan Hewitt might have summed it up best, however, when he said “Because we are winners.”

He and his teammates proved that to be true as they, once again, walked home with a win over the coaches.
