Golf pro Tony Milam and his wife Danielle have become the new owners of Sunny Street Cafe located in The Shops at Grist Mill, 7531 Crile Road in Concord Township.

The couple, who are also Concord residents, took ownership of the business on May 1. They had looked for some time for a business to invest in.

“We have been in search of a good investment that we could control for some time, and it has been difficult to find something that met all the criteria we were looking for,” Tony Milam said. “We found it in Sunny Street. It’s something close to our home and right in our neighborhood. We think we found a special gem here.”

Milam, a golf pro for 35 years and a member of PGA America for a quarter of a century, is also the founder and chairman of the North Coast Junior Golf Tour. And he still enjoys playing competitive golf.

“It’s been a successful thing for a long period of time..., but now we have kind of started a new venture,” he said.

Milam said found an excellent team that provides excellent service at the restaurant.

Milam has been around the hospitality industry for years, and he says he has always had a taste for what hospitality is.

“It all goes back to customer service and putting out a good product,” he said. “You usually have a pretty successful business by doing that.”

Milam feels the first month of his owning the business has been excellent.

“We have a strong loyal customer base,” he said. “We draw a lot of people on the weekends from the parties that go to church and stop in after for brunches or breakfasts afterwards, and we draw from the business side during lunches throughout the week.

“We have a great facility, great location, great customer service and excellent food product and that is a successful formula.”

Milam enjoys the fact that it is a family-style restaurant.

“We have friends in the communities so it fits well with what we do and they stop in here,” he said.

Milam operates the business with help from his wife. They both come in to help their team of employees and make sure customers are happy.

The couple is still learning some of the aspects of running the business but feels it’s been a pretty easy learning curve since they have spent so much time in hospitality businesses.

Current customers shouldn’t expect to see any major changes.

“Even on the service and advertising side of things we are not looking to make any changes to what is going on,” Milam said. “It’s a long running business and the restaurant has run well, and we are looking to keep it on the same path.”

The new owners have made a few upgrades to the restaurant’s patio which features soft music and what Milam describes as a unique water feature.
