Gray Riders event to benefit Eastlake Police Activities League

The sixth annual Gray Riders Dice Run is set to take place Aug. 3 in Eastlake, to benefit the Eastlake Police Activities League.

Registration for the ride will begin at 9 a.m. at the EPAL Community Center, 600 E. 349th St.

The first bike will be out at noon and the last bike will be in at 5 p.m., according to a news release.

Last year there were close to 100 bikes that participated, said Gray Riders President George Hoyt. With nice weather forecast for this year’s ride, he hopes to increase that number.

“We’re probably close to $100,000 total we’ve raised for EPAL in the six years,” he added. He said that the hope is to raise $25,000 to $26,000 during just this year’s event.

The event is open to the public, including children.

There will also be a breakfast in the morning,

a Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle and entertainment.

The first place raffle prize will be $4,000 cash and the second place prize will be $1,000.

“You don’t have to be present to win... (and) you don’t have to go on the ride in order to participate in the Chinese auction,” Hoyt said.

The cost of the dice run

is $15 per bike or car and $5 for each additional passenger.

There will be cash prizes for high roll ($400) and low roll ($200).

Stops for the ride will include: Gunny’s Hall, Mr. Lee’s Bar and Grill, Frankie’s Tavern, Rounders Lounge, Jeanne’s Joynt and lastly, EPAL.

“They’ve been selling the raffle tickets for us for the last couple months, and they donate something for the Chinese auction as well,” Hoyt said about the stop locations. “They’ve been the same stops for the last five years.

“All you have to do is give bikers in this area a reason to ride and they come out,” he added. “And then something to benefit the kids, they’ll jump on that opportunity to do that.”

The Gray Riders are a Northeast Ohio motorcycle association that promotes motorcycle activities and charity events in the region, including the dice run to benefit EPAL.

“They’ve been with us since we’ve started,” Hoyt said.

EPAL’s mission is to “create, foster and sponsor programs designed to promote the physical and mental well-being of the youth within the City of Eastlake, while building social relationships among the police, youth and the community.”
