Trivisonno
To his point, Trivisonno pointed out that his Cardinals have been lifting weights and doing offseason training for 142 days heading into the first day of practice Aug. 1.
Trivisonno has fond memories of his first two years of coaching at Anthony Wayne. Then he had successful runs as an assistant coach first on the staff of Rex Reigert's Madison Blue Streaks and second on Don Andersen's Riverside staff.
When Pavlansky left for Canfield, Mentor rolled the
dice hiring a coach with no head-coaching experience.
It's worked out pretty well.
“I just wanted a good, long career and wanted to do it until I retired (from teaching),” Trivisonno said. “From that standpoint, I'm about as lucky as you can possibly be. It's been fun.”
A farewell tour — something like a Tour de Triv — isn't Trivisonno's style.
But rest assured, over the following days, week and months, Trivisonno is going to enjoy every moment, whether it's game-planning, pregame handshakes with coaches, or holding his hat high while the Mentor band plays the alma mater after
games.
It starts Aug. 1. Trivisonno's final first day of practice with the Cardinals.
He's not taking it for granted.
“It's still fun. The excitement of the game never changes,” he said. “Whether it's the first day (of practice) or that first Thursday in
Lakewood (when the Cardinals open with St. Edward on Aug. 29), it's going to be memorable. That's what I'll miss the most.
“I'm not getting caught up in (a farewell tour). I'm going to give everything I have to make this the best possible year I can. I'm looking forward to really getting after it this year.”
