Droopy eyelids and wrinkles? Rejuvenate your aging eyes.

- Julian Perry, MD Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute, Beachwood and Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital

As you age, your skin loses elasticity and begins to droop. It’s most obvious around your eyes.

“Extra skin causes wrinkles and bags under your eyes,” says Cleveland Clinic ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon Julian Perry, MD. “Fatty tissue deposits can cause your eyelids to appear puffy. Periorbital hollows show up as dark circles around your eyes.”

If you’re bothered by these effects of aging, there are several safe, proven treatments to help you appear more youthful.

Botulinum toxin injections, such as Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin®, weaken muscles in the crow’s feet area around your eye. This smooths out those wrinkles, making your eyes look younger.

Dr. Perry has developed techniques that use botulinum toxin products to lift eyebrows and open up your eyes.

“You need someone skilled in eyelid rejuvenation techniques to understand the nuances of what these products can offer around the eyes,” says Dr. Perry.

Filler injections, such as Restylane® and Juvéderm®, plump up creases and brighten dark, hollow areas.

Eyelid surgery can remove the extra skin and fat that cause under-eye bags. Or it can take fat from eyelid bags and move it into the hollow areas underneath.

“Eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty, is one of our most effective rejuvenation options because the eyes are such an important focal point of the face,” says Dr. Perry.

The eyelids also support vision, your most critical sense, he adds.

To find the most effective treatment for you, talk to an ophthalmologist who has experience in oculoplastic surgery.

Dr. Perry sees patients at Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute in Beachwood and Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 216.444.2020.
