Men accused of stealing safe, guns from home

Two Euclid men are accused of stealing guns and a safe from a Willoughby home.

Two Euclid men are accused of stealing multiple guns and a safe from a Willoughby home.

Willoughby police were called to a home on the 4100 block of Clark Avenue at 7:30 a.m., Aug. 1, for a burglary report. The victim told police that when he woke up that morning he found the front door had been forced open and guns and a safe were missing.

According to a news release from the Willoughby Police Department, a neighbor told officers that he saw a suspicious vehicle in the neighborho­od around 2:30 a.m. on the night of the suspected burglary.

The neighbor had taken a photo of the vehicle, which was a White Chevrolet Equinox SUV with a black racing stripe.

Police were also able to obtain surveillan­ce video from a nearby location. Police said the video showed the same vehicle along with two occupants entering and leaving the victim’s home.

The suspects were later identified as 26-year-old Kalon Biggers and 28-yearold Thomas Miller.

Around 12:30 p.m. that day, Willoughby detectives arrested Biggers without incident at a residence on the 400 block of E. 272 Street in Euclid. Detectives found the victim’s two stolen rifle and one stolen handgun inside the residence.

The Equinox was found parked outside.

Detectives arrested Miller without incident around 3 p.m. that day after locating him at a residence on the 1500 block of E. 173 Street in Cleveland. The stolen safe was found at that residence.

Biggers and Miller were arraigned in Willoughby Municipal Court on charges of second-degree felony burglary and receiving stolen property. Biggers is also facing a fifth-degree felony possession of criminal tools charge.

Both men have preliminar­y hearings scheduled in the municipal court on Aug. 8.

Biggers remains in the Lake County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond. Miller remains in jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
