Mosack’s left an opportunity in the wake of its relocation in Mentor.

The faith-based retailer recently reopened in the former Christian Bookstore and Lifeway location at 7633 Mentor Ave.

Owners Betty and Joe Vento scarcely had time to think about plans for the old site, at 8562 Mentor Ave., when they were approached by prospective new tenants.

In a collaborative effort, Life’s Simple Treasures, Tiffany Rose, Country Peddler and a jewelry maker will jointly set up shop in the three-level century home. The new businesses plan to open Aug. 15.

“While the original Mentor location has served us and our customers well ... time has suggested that it is time to make a move to reach more customers and serve all of our customers the best way we can,” the Ventos said in an announcement. “Part of that is one level and a move from 6,000 square feet to 8,000 square feet.

“This was a big decision for us. We felt one level, easier visibility gave us an opportunity to truly display the charm and eclectic nature of our products and represents a new discovery and experience.”

Joe noted that the new site has been home to a Christian store for 40 years.

The Ventos were interested in the spot when Family Christian Bookstore closed about two years ago, but the Lifeway chain won the bid. Both previous stores since have steered away from brick-and-mortar sales.

Mosack’s occupied its former building for 27 years.

“It’ll be a great destination point for people and it’s perfect in a century home with their type of products,” Betty said.

She is the granddaughter of the founder of the business, established in Michigan in 1947 as A.J. Mosack’s & Sons, and began working full time in 1975.

Prior to Mentor, the business was located in Fairport Harbor and Mentor-on-theLake.

The new store offers more church goods, Bibles and lesson books, plus music and DVDs, clergy wear and communion products, gift items such as My Saint My Hero jewelry and Willow Tree Angels, home decor, various flags and poles, and the largest selection of Fontanini Heirloom nativities in Ohio.

“Our roots are Catholic, but we serve the entire Christian community,” Joe said.

The grand “re-opening” celebration includes door prizes, raffles and 20 percent off purchases through Aug. 15.

“Mosack’s is a Mentor institution which will take advantage of the traffic in and around Great Lakes Mall with their new location,” Mentor Economic Development Director Kevin Malecek said.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, and closed Sundays.
