Officer indicted after allegedly filming himself urinating on 12-year-old girl

An off-duty Cleveland police officer was indicted by a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury Aug. 21 on multiple charges after he allegedly filmed himself urinating on a 12-year-old girl in Euclid.

Solomon Nhiwatiwa, 34, was charged with attempted kidnapping (with sexual motivation specificat­ion), pandering obscenity involving a minor, disseminat­ing matter harmful to juveniles, endangerin­g children, criminal child enticement, public indecency, assault, and attempted interferen­ce with custody.

According to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, the victim was waiting for a school bus on Euclid Avenue on the morning of Aug. 16. Nhiwatiwa allegedly drove past her with his windows rolled down and attempted to engage in a conversati­on and asked if she needed a ride to school. The victim refused his offer, and he drove away.

Nhiwatiwa returned about a minute later, parked his vehicle, approached the victim, allegedly Nhiwatiwa has been with the department since March 2014.

exposed his genitals and began urinating on the victim while it appeared he was filming himself with his cellphone. He then walked back into his car and drove away.

Nhiwatiwa turned himself in to Euclid police Aug. 20 and remains in the Euclid Jail, according to the prosecutor’s office. He is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 26 at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center.

Cleveland police officials stated in a news release that the case remains under investigat­ion and “will be closely monitored by the Cleveland Division of Police Bureau of Compliance and the Internal Affairs Unit.”

Nhiwatiwa was relieved from duty following his arrest and will remain suspended without pay pending the adjudicati­on of the criminal charges, according to the Cleveland Police Department’s news release. Nhiwatiwa has been with the department since March 2014.

Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer in a written statement thanked Cleveland police for their cooperatio­n in the investigat­ion.
