Miracle Park to be site of Wiffle ball tourney
A Wiffle ball tournament among corporate teams is set to take place for the first time at Miracle Park.
A Wiffle ball tournament among corporate teams is scheduled to take place for the first time at Miracle Park on Sept. 15.
The tournament involves a $500 corporate sponsorship, which includes the sponsor’s logo on all marketing materials and Tshirts, according to signup documents.
There will be eight teams with a maximum of 10 players each. Funds raised by the event will go toward the Miracle League of Lake County.
“We’re thinking: ‘what can we do to make this a better place for kids?’” said Devin Levan-Galang, a Miracle League board member and manager of game presentation and community relations for the Lake County Captains.
Jen Yorko, secretary of the Miracle League board and assistant general manager of the Lake County Captains, said that she has received feedback from visitors asking to play at the Miracle Park facilities.
“A lot of feedback from the public is: ‘how do we play on the field?’” Yorko said.
She added that the Miracle League of Lake County is looking at hosting a Miracle League all-star game for players from around the world. Fundraising efforts are needed for that to take place.
The Miracle League of Lake County is a league designed to allow individuals with special needs to play baseball. It is currently in its second season this year. The fall session of league play is scheduled to run through Sept. 28.
Yorko said that fundraising efforts, such as the tournament, help cover costs for Miracle Park amenities, such as a recently installed shelter next to the baseball field.
Those interested in registering a team for the Wiffle ball tournament can contact Yorko at 440-9758085, ext. 116, or jyorko@ captainsbaseball.com.
The tournament is scheduled for 9 a.m., Sept. 15, at Lake Health Miracle Park, 35200 Vine St. in Eastlake.
