Walk to End Alzheimer’s planned

Lake Metroparks Farmpark will be site of Sept. 29 event

- Staff report

Lake Metroparks Farmpark in Kirtland will be the site of the 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sept. 29.

Activities and registration begin at 8 a.m. The walk steps off after a Promise Garden ceremony at 10 a.m. honoring those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting local residents and businesses to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by registering for the Walk.

Participants choose a one-mile or a three-mile route winding through the Farmpark. Organizers expect 1,100 participants from more than 100 teams, and their goal is to raise more than $260,000, according to a news release.

After the walk, participants are invited to a party with family-friendly activities, games, information booths and more.

“It’s an honor to once again be a part of this exciting event, which will fund critically needed care and support programs for the more 50,000 Northeast Ohioans whose lives are touched by Alzheimer’s disease,” said Cynthia MooreHardy, Lake Health president and CEO as well as a member of the Alzheimer’s Association Cleveland Area Chapter board.

Lake Health team members and volunteers are selling point of sale flowers at the hospital’s pharmacies and information desks to support Lake Health - Team Forget Me Not. Senior Connection members have learned about the walk at their monthly events and signed up to support the team even if they can’t physically walk the route. And team members have taken a chance on several raffle prizes with proceeds supporting Lake Health -Team Forget Me Not.

In addition to the walk, participants learn about Alzheimer’s disease and how to get involved with this cause, from advocacy opportunities to support programs and services to clinical studies. To start or join a team today, visit act.alz. org/kirtlandwalk.

“There has never been a greater need to join in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease,” said Nancy Udelson, president and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association Cleveland Area Chapter. Funds raised will provide care and support services to all those facing Alzheimer’s disease; advance education and awareness efforts; drive research, and fuel efforts to advocate at federal and state levels for the support our movement needs.”
