Riverside School District is introducing a new face to start the 2019-20 school year with the arrival of a new student resource officer.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Havrilla will be replacing Sgt. Jerry Infalvi in the role. Infalvi previously served as the school’s SRO for the second half of the 2018-19 school year. A promotion with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office led to an opening within Riverside that was filled by Havrilla. Riverside’s SRO social media page featured a message from Infalvi that said, in part, “It was a complete pleasure and honor to serve the school district and ensure the safety of all the students and staff.”

The district expressed excitement over the new addition on social media.

“We’d like to thank Jerry for his service while with the District and most importantly, thank him for keeping our students and staff safe,” it posted.

The post went on to add that Havrilla is a “seasoned deputy” and that district officials “look forward to him working with us.”

The new post will be a trip down memory lane for Havrilla who graduated from Riverside High School in 2001 before going on to serve in the U.S. National Guard for eight years. Havrilla also served two years of combat in Iraq from 2002 to 2004.

He has worked with the Virginia Beach Police for six years before joining the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
