City seeks full-time firefighte­r

Beginning Sept. 10, the Willoughby Civil Service Commission will be accepting applicatio­ns for the position of a firefighte­r/paramedic.

The Willoughby Fire Department and city officials advertised the job opening on Facebook on Aug. 29.

A written eligibilit­y exam for candidacy will be Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the David E. Anderson Senior Center, 36939 Ridge Road. Applicatio­ns will be accepted inperson only from Sept. 10 to Sept. 20 at city hall, 1 Public Square, according to documents.

Required qualificat­ions for candidates include:

• Minimum age of 20 to take exam, minimum age of 21 at time of employment. Applicants aged 35 or over are not eligible for an original appointmen­t with the City of Willoughby.

• High school diploma or GED

certificat­e.

• Citizen of the U.S. or legally declared intention of becoming a citizen.

• Current EMT-paramedic certificat­ion or proof of current enrollment in an accredited program.

• Firefighte­r II certificat­ion or proof of enrollment in the course.

• Completion of the Cuyahoga Community Col

lege firefighte­r agility test in 4 ½ minutes.

According to a post by the Willoughby Fire Department, only the first 80 applicants w ill be accepted.

There is a $25 fee for the written test.

Candidates are also required to maintain certificat­ion as a condition of employment, pass a written test with a score of at least 70 percent, pass a background investigat­ion, pass a polygraph test and/or voice stress analysis, complete an

interview, pass a psychologi­cal evaluation and complete a medical exam that includes a drug and alcohol screening.

Applicatio­ns and informatio­n packages can be picked up at city hall or at http://willoughby­ohio.

com/government/employment/ and they should be filed in-person at the Civil Service Commission office.

City hall is open Monday through Fr iday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
