Mentor Public Library plans computer classes in September

Mentor Public Library is hosting eight free computer classes at its Main Branch, including basic introductions to computers, the Internet, Facebook and Microsoft Word.

The classes include:

• An introduction to computers—the library’s most basic computer class—at 2 p.m., Sept. 17. People will learn the basic skills they need to use a computer— no previous experience required.

• Microsoft Word I at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 17, and Microsoft Word II at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 18. Learn basic and then progressively more advanced techniques for Microsoft’s word processing software.

• Basic Internet skills at 10 a.m., Sept. 18. Learn how to navigate the Internet. Participants will need to know how to use a keyboard and a mouse for this class.

• Introduction to Facebook at 2 p.m., Sept. 18. The hands-on class will demonstrate basic Facebook features and tips. Come to class with Facebook login information and password.

• Basic email skills at 10 a.m., Sept. 19. Learn how to send emails and attachments, as well as reply to other people’s emails.

• Introduction to Pinterest at 2 p.m., Sept. 19. Learn how to use Pinterest, a social medium specializing in art, crafts and pictures.

• Introduction Microsoft Word—Labels & Mail Merge at 6:30 p.m, Sept. 19. Using Microsoft Office, learn how to create mailing labels and perform a mail merge to create labels, envelopes, and form letters.

All of the classes are free. However, registration is required; and, because space is limited, people are asked to sign up as soon as possible.

The library also offers several online courses that teach how to use Microsoft software with the Lynda. com database.
