Lions Clubs sponsor GOOD Program for students
The Willoughby Evening Lions Club and the Willoughby Lions Club cosponsored the GOOD Program at Grant Elementary School on May 14 and at Edison Elementary School on May 22.
GOOD stands for Going On Or Defeated.
This was the 22nd year that the Lions Clubs under the direction of District Governor Lion Mike Tyler from The Willoughby Evening Lions Club has sponsored this program in the Willoughby Elementary Schools.
The students who receive the award are chosen by their fourth grade teachers.
Established by Lion Ron Derry of Baltimore, Ohio, a former school teacher and coach, who was afflicted with blindness, the concept is to recognize young people who are not necessarily the “straightA” students or the top athletes.
Those students receive plenty of attention.
Instead, the GOOD Program shines the spotlight
The GOOD Program shines the spotlight on students who work hard and exhibit good citizenship and good personal and study habits.

Since its introduction in Ohio and adoption as a statewide project, it has also expanded into West Virginia and Kentucky.
Benefits of the Program: • Deserved recognition of hard-working but under appreciated students.
• Increased club involvement with school officials and teachers.
