Painesville continues to seek applicants to serve on the city’s Civil Service Commission.

The initial Sept. 13 deadline for resume submissions has been extended an additional week to allow for more entries.

The mission of the commission is to provide an orderly, fair and uniform system for the administration of the civil service laws and the city’s rules and regulations.

The three-member commission is tasked with managing and running entrance and promotional exams for both the city’s fire and police departments. Members are charged with the

responsibility of overseeing the testing and the certification of candidates eligibility lists for entry level police officers and firefighters to the city manager.

They would also handle matters of safety issues as they relate to the civil service departments. This includes serving as a board of review for various civil service employee-related issues.

Members of the Civil Service Commission would not, however, be responsible for legislative or budgetary issues.

Members are required to be a Painesville resident and cannot hold any other municipal office or employment under city auspices. Applicants will be reviewed by members of City Council before an appointment selection is made. Selected members will serve for a term of six years.

Current Civil Service Commission members include Neville Graham, Jan Clair, and Kathy Deane.
