The Riverside Beavers will travel two hours Sept. 14 to finish their home game against Lima Senior. Riverside and Lima Senior will meet up at 4 p.m. at Mansfield Madison High School to complete their game that was suspended by lightning at halftime Sept. 13 at Riverside Stadium. Riverside was leading, 14-10, at the half when play was halted. “It’s our home game and now we’ll be finishing it on the road,” said Riverside coach Dave Bors. “We’re going to meet them halfway to finish it. We aren’t obligated to do that, but in the name of sportsmanship we are going to do it. It’s the least we could do since they made the trip out here for a one-year deal. “I know our guys will be ready tomorrow. I trust them and look forward to them facing adversity.” Riverside was trailing, 10-7, when defensive end Matt Watson made a one-handed interception on a screen pass and returned it deep into Lima territory. A short while later, quarterback Dom Lulow hit Matt Spofford for the go-ahead touchdown pass. The ball was tipped in the air, but Spofford corralled it for the score. “The offense made some adjustment and was clicking in the second quarter,” Bors said. “We found some things that were working and we executed them in the second quarter.” Then Mother Nature intervened. Lima will begin the third quarter Sept. 14 by receiving the second-half kickoff. • Noah Arnold and the Newbury Black Knights are on the board. Arnold carried for 135 yards and three touchdowns, threw for 35 yards and two touchdowns, kicked two conversions and completed a two-point conversion pass, leading the Black Knights to their first win of the season, 42-12, over East Tech on Sept. 13. Defensively, Arnold returned a fumble 30 yards for a touchdown, meaning he had a hand in all six of his team’s touchdowns. “He had a heckuva game,” Coach Ryan Williams said. “He played well last week against Hawken, too, but got hurt and couldn’t play in the second half. “He did a little bit of everything for us tonight.” Arnold had touchdown runs of 2, 5 and 9 yards. His scoring passes went to Jaberil Allen and Mitch Sanders. Newbury (1-2) hosts Pymatuning Valley in Week 4. “That’s what we were talking about, getting the first one,” Williams said. “We wanted to get some momentum going into the Pymatuning Valley game. We’ll have to be at our best to beat them.” • Kendyn Wiggins ran for two touchdowns and threw for another to lead Beachwood to a 34-0 win over Collinwood on Sept. 13. The game was at halftime and ruled a complete game. Beachwood is now 2-1. • Jon Sharp ran for 61 yards, scored a touchdown and also threw for 122 yards, but NDCL lost to host Columbus DeSales, 36-21, on Sept. 13. With the loss, NDCL fell to 1-2. • Ryan Pennypacker ran for 106 yards and a touchdown, but Berkshire lost to visiting Garrettsville, 41-14, on Sept. 13. Berkshire is now 2-1.
