Road projects approved in Mentor-on-the-Lake

Mentor-on-the-Lake’s road repair program is set for this year, thanks to recent budget approval by City Council.
This year’s program, which again piggybacked on Mentor’s annual bid, comprises the following:
• Asphalt pavement of Beech from Southland to Manor, and Primrose from Beech to Lake Street
• Concrete repairs on Reef and Larkspur, along with box-out repair and replacements on Sequoia, Linden, Reef, Reynolds and Larkspur.
“The box-outs are anything related to the storms and drains (such as) manholes, storm grates,” Administrative Director Hollie Bartone said.
The total road program is $110,456 — $86,832 for asphalt and $23,624 concrete.
The projects are picked based on observations by the city service director and his staff, Mayor David Eva said.
The road improvements are made possible through the charter road levy passed by the voters in 2014, and the cooperative agreement with Mentor, officials say.
Last month, Mentor City Council approved contracting with Chagrin Valley Paving for the asphalt work and the concrete contract went to Euclid-based A&J Cement Contractors, Inc.
The scheduled completion date for both contracts is Aug. 21.
The communities began the symbiotic relationship in 2016.
“This gives both cities the benefit of reduced rates for both asphalt and concrete,” Eva said.
Mentor-on-the-Lake will provide its own inspections as well as funding.
