RH guard first-team All-Ohio

Gbolahan Adio led the Richmond Heights boys basketball team within a game of returning to the state final four before the boys basketball tournament was postponed. March 16, the Spartans’ senior was named first-team All-Ohio in Division IV by the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Associatio­n. The 6-foot-3guard averaged 17.6 points per game for Richmond Heights, which had won 18 consecutiv­e games prior to the season’s suspension. Adio tied for sixth among area 3-point shooting leaders, hitting 553s this year. He also averaged 3.3assists and 2.8steals per game. As a junior, Adio received All-Ohio special mention. Teammate Josiah Harris also received recognitio­n in D-IV. The 6-foot-7sophomore was named second-team All-Ohio, as he averaged 20.2points per game in his first season with Richmond Heights. Harris also ranked third in the area with 11.8rebounds per game and tallied 1.2blocks per game. Area players to receive special mention include Andrews Osborne’s Brandon Charles, Richmond Heights’ Jamarr Talbert Jr. and Newbury’s John Tropf. Beachwood guard Daryl Houston led area D-III All-Ohio selections as a second-team choice. After moving to Northeast Ohio from Detroit prior to the start of his junior year, the 6-foot-1point guard averaged 23.2points per game for the Bison — the area’s second-best average. Houston led the Bison with 7.4 rebounds, 4.3assists and 3.3 steals per game. Kirtland’s Zach Samsa also received special mention in D-III after helping lead the Hornets to a 17-win season.
