Health District releases latest COVID-19 case breakdown for the county

The Lake County General Health District on May 6 released its latest breakdown of novel coronaviru­s cases in the county.

The health district’s report summarizes available data for total COVID-19 cases in the county, including both laboratory confirmed and probable cases, based on cumulative data entered in the Ohio Disease Reporting System as of 2 p.m., May 5.

As of that period, there were 168 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in Lake County and eight more probably cases. Of those figures, 53 percent were women.

In the racial breakdown of the cases, 84 percent are white and 11 percent are black, according to the health district’s data. According to Lake County population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau as of July 1, 2019, 91.8 percent of county residents are white and 4.6 percent are black.

The age range of the cases is 1 to 96 years old, with the average age being 52.

The two Lake County zip codes with the most cases are 44094 and 44077. Both of those zip codes have between 41 and 50 COVID-19 cases, according to the health district.

The 44094 zip code consists of Willoughby, Willoughby Hills, Kirtland, Waite Hill. This zip code was also in the 41- to 50case range last week, according to health district data.

The 44077 zip code consists of Painesvill­e, Fairport Harbor, Concord Township, Painesvill­e Township and Leroy Township. The health district notes that this zip code may include adjacent zip codes with portions that

fall within Lake County boundaries.

Small portions of the largely Geauga-based 44024 and 44086 zip codes are in Lake County. The 44077 zip code had between 31-40 cases last week, according to health district data.

Every Lake County zip code has at least one COVID-19 case with the exception of 44045 (Grand River), which is Lake County’s least populous zip code.

As of 2 p.m. May 5, there were 53 coronaviru­s-related hospitaliz­ations in Lake County, according to the health district. The ages of

those hospitaliz­ed ranged from 17 to 96. The average age was 65.

Of those hospitaliz­ed, 53 percent have been women. Eighty-five percent of those hospitaliz­ed were white and 15 percent were black. As of that time frame, there were 18 total ICU admissions.

There are eight COVID-19 deaths in Lake County. All eight are men. The ages of those who have died range from 55 to 94. The average age is 77, according to the health district. Of those who have died, 75 percent were white and 25 percent are black.
