Health care workers account for slightly more than a quarter of Lake County’s novel coronaviru­s cases.

Health care workers account for slightly more than a quarter of Lake County’s novel coronaviru­s cases, according to the latest data from the Lake County General Health District.

Lake County has 216 confirmed COVID-19 cases and another 16 probably cases, as of 2 p.m., May 19. Healthcare

workers make up 26 percent of those cases, the data shows.

The health district’s report summarizes available data for total COVID-19 cases in the county, including both laboratory confirmed and probable cases, based on cumulative data entered in the Ohio Disease Reporting System.

The health district has been releasing its summary reports weekly. This week’s report is the first time the health district has included data regarding healthcare workers.

There are now nine total COVID-19 related deaths in Lake County, including the first female, according to the data. The age range of those who have died is 55 to 94, with an average age of 77. Three-quarters of the victims are white and 25 percent are black.

Women comprise 55 percent of the county’s total COVID-19 cases. Of those in Lake County who have contracted the virus, 81 percent are white and 12 are black, according to the data. According to Lake County population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau as of July 1, 2019, 91.8 percent of county residents are white and 4.6 percent are black.

The ages of those who have contracted the virus in Lake County range from 1 to 96. The average age is 51, according to the health district.

There have been 64 COVID-19-related hospitaliz­ations in the county. The ages of those who have been hospitaliz­ed range from 17 to 96. The average age is 65. Fifty-two percent of those who have been hospitaliz­ed are women. Eighty-four percent of those who were hospitaliz­ed are white and 16 percent are black.

There have been 23 ICU admissions due to the virus.

The Lake County zip code with the most cases is 44094 with between 5160 cases, according to the data. This zip code consists of Willoughby, Willoughby Hills, Kirtland, Waite Hill.

Two other Lake County zip codes have more than 40 cases: 44060 and 44077, which are both in the 4150 case range. The 44060 zip code consists of Mentor, Mentor-on-the-Lake and Kirtland Hills. The 44077 zip code consists of Painesvill­e, Fairport Harbor, Concord Township, Painesvill­e Township and Leroy Township.

The district notes that this zip code may include adjacent zip codes with portions that fall within Lake County boundaries. Small portions of the largely Geauga-based 44024 and 44086 zip codes are in Lake County.
