Landry making rehab progress
Receiver isn’t joining teammates in Texas, is targeting August for return
Browns receiver Jarvis Landry is ahead of schedule on his journey back from offseason hip surgery.
That’s the good news.
The bad news — no one knows when Landry and his teammates (or anyone else in the NFL, for that matter) will be back on the field as the league continues its quest to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus.
“The rehab process is going great,” said Landry from his home in Florida via a Zoom conference call. “It’s just a little difficult, just some of the modality type of things I’ve been doing that obviously with the quarantine I haven’t been able to have access too.
“That’s been the toughest part of it.”
Landry had surgery in February not long after an appearance in his fifth Pro Bowl. He finished the season with 83 catches for 1,174 yards and six touchdowns. While he didn’t miss a game, he was hampered by the hip injury throughout the season.
Being able to play is a source of pride for Landry, a product of LSU, but he opted for surgery so as to be of greater value to his team.
He has never missed a game since coming to the NFL in 2014.
“That’s one of the goals I set for myself since I was watching ‘Monday Night Football,’ “he said of his youth. “It’s still something that’s in the back of my mind.
“Obviously I want to make sure I’m going through this process the right way, making sure I am healthy enough to be able to go out there and help the team win games and not hurt the team.”
Landry said he can’t predict when he will be back on the field, whether it’s in July minicamp, camp in August or September.
