Rapist gets 136 years in Lake County

Lake County Common Pleas Court Judge John O’Donnell has sentenced Tyrone Gibson, 52, to a 136-year consecutive sentence on a 37-count indictment.

Charges included felony rape, second-degree felony sexual battery and third-degree felony sexual battery.

Gibson’s sentence handed down May 28 will run concurrent to an eight-year sentence he is currently serving for an attempted rape conviction.

The charges against Gibson range from 2011 to 2015. The victim was known to Gibson and was younger than 13-years-old when the offenses started.

The jury found Gibson guilty on all counts last week.

In 2015, he pleaded guilty in Lake County Common Pleas Court to attempted rape. Gibson plead guilty by way of North Carolina v. Alford — essentially a guilty plea where the defendant maintains his innocence. O’Donnell was the judge in Gibson’s 2015 case, and he sentenced him to eight years in prison on that second-degree felony charge, according to court records.

A Columbus police officer was shot and critically injured Thursday — but is expected to make a full recovery — as he and a colleague tried to arrest someone at a house in Columbus, authorities said.

The officer is out of surgery and though he’ll be

OK, “he has a long road ahead of him,” Police Chief Tom Quinlan said.

Authorities released few other details on the shooting or the officers. A witness told The Columbus Dispatch she saw police walk a woman from the house shortly after the morning shooting.

The other officer suffered a hand injury, the Dispatch reported. The officers were part of an operation involving multiple agencies, said Keith Farrell, president of a local police union.

Ohio man gets 4 years on child porn charges

A former television weatherman accused of downloading pornographic images depicting children was sentenced Thursday to four to six years in prison.

Mike Davis’ sentence followed his guilty pleas on four counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor. Authorities have said he downloaded and emailed the material to himself over a period of about seven years. Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Karen Held Phipps called the facts of the case “horrendous,” The Columbus Dispatch reported.

“These are victims who were groomed and abused for years to get them to participate in these acts,” she said. “You chose to support an industry that re-victimized these children over and over for years.”

Davis, whose sentencing had been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, appeared in court wearing a face mask.

Davis, 60, faced up to 29 ½ years in prison. Besides the prison sentence, he will have to register as a sex offender for the next 25 years.
