General Health district releases latest coronaviru­s data

The Lake County General Health District on June 3 released its latest novel coronaviru­s data report.

The county had 281 laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases as of 2 p.m., June 2, and another 28 probable cases, according to the report. The health district’s report summarizes available data for total COVID-19 cases in the county based on cumulative data entered in the Ohio Disease Reporting System.

The 309 total COVID-19 cases in Lake County is up from 280 total (258 confirmed, 22 probable) in the health district’s last data report released May 27.

Health care workers make up 26 percent of the county’s cases, according to the report.

That figure has hovered around 25 percent since the health district added health care worker data to the report May 20.

In that initial report, health care workers also comprised 26 percent of the cases. In the May 27 report, health care workers comprised 24 percent of the county’s cases.

In the breakdown by sex, women comprise 56 percent of the county’s total COVID-19 cases. Men make up 44 percent. The age range of cases is 1 to 96 with an average age of 50.

Of the county’s total cases, 78 percent are white, 12 percent are black and 3 percent are Asian. According to the U.S. Census Bureau

population estimates as of July 1, 2019, 91.8 percent of Lake County’s total population is white, 4.6 percent is black and 1.5 percent is Asian.

Lake County has seen 68 COVID-19-related hospitaliz­ations as of June 2 including 24 ICU admissions. Of those who have been hospitaliz­ed, 53 percent are women and 48 percent are men. Eighty percent of those who have been hospitaliz­ed are white and 16 percent are black, according to the data. The age range of those who have been hospitaliz­ed is 17 to 96. The average age is 65.

The county’s total COVID-19-related deaths remains at 12. Eighty percent of those who have died are men. Eighty-three percent of those who have died are white and 17 percent are black. The age range

of those who have died is 55 to 94. The average age is 79.

The health district releases case breakdown by zip code. According to the data, three zip codes — 44060, 44077 and 44094 — have between 61 and 80 cases. Three more — 44057, 44092 and 44095 —have between 21 and 40 cases.

The 44081 zip code has between 1 and 20 cases, while the 44045 zip code does not have any cases, according to the health district’s report.

Statewide as of 2 p.m. June 2, there were 33,892 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 2,521 additional probable cases, according to the Ohio Department of Health. There are 2,041 confirmed deaths and another 217 probable coronaviru­s-related deaths.
