City welcomes new faces to boards
Painesville City Council recently voted on a pair of appointments that will fill empty seats on the Planning Commis- sion and the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Jim Fialko has been appointed to the Planning Commission. Fialko formerly worked with the city of Euclid in its Planning and Development Department for 24 years before his move to Painesville.
His term with the Planning Commission will run through December 2023. The first meeting he will attend will occur on July 9.
“I applied because I wanted to give something back to the community,” said Fialko. “I like the blend of small town atmosphere combined with city and college atmospheres.”
Brian Dunay will fill a seat on the Board of Zoning Appeals. His term will run until December 2024. The city stated Dunay has a background in “business-to-business media for over 20 years,” and that he has experience in business development, marketing, and project management.
His first BZA meeting was June 18.
“One of the most important things we love about Painesville is its diversity,” said Dunay. “I’m not sure you are able to find that anywhere else in Lake County. I joined the BZA because I thought it would be a good way to get more involved and active with

our community.”
Both Fialko and Dunay are Painesville residents for the past four and five years, respectively.
Theirs are not the only new appointments that Painesville has recently seen. While he has been a familiar face as assistant city manager for the past several years, Doug Lewis has recently seen a new appointment. He has taken over as interim City Manager for Monica Dupee while she is on maternity leave.
“City Manager Irelan (Dupee) and I reviewed the current projects and discussed how she would like me to handle specific issues during her absence,” Lewis said.
