Several area standouts net All-American plaudits

Several swimmers and divers from News-Herald coverage area schools were honored as All-Americans on the recently unveiled National Interschol­astic Swim Coaches Associatio­n’s 2019-2020 list.

In order to qualify, swimmers had to log one of the 100 fastest times in the country as recognized by the NISCA in their respective events. Competitor­s are submitted for considerat­ion through an online applicatio­n.

Nick Tekieli, the 2020 NewsHerald boys swimmer of the year, was an All-American individual­ly in 200-yard individual medley and 100 backstroke. His 48.33 to win the Division II 100 back state title in February was the 13th fastest recognized time in the event in the country.
