Our freedoms are in danger

Just to comment on Jeff Schudel’s July 7 sports column in which he stated what bothers him most about the political correctnes­s, “and it reaches far beyond what Cleveland baseball team might be known in the future.”

He went on to say, “I believe our freedom as Americans is in danger if we all are to think the same way about every issue.”

Can’t agree with him more! Hitler, Stalin and now China all followed this plan to keep their people in line. Now it appears everyone has to fall in line or else.

People are getting fired for saying such things like “All lives matter.” Unbelievab­le!

This is not how our democracy has achieved its greatness. Our democracy is built on our ability to have difference­s and its freedom of speech/ideas.

Now our own Cleveland Indians have fallen in the line of fire. The Indians’ name has somehow become a racial issue. This is the team of Larry Doby and the first black manager, Frank Robinson.

It appears the Indians management/owner has succumbed to the pressure of the seven or eight Native Americans that picket on opening day or some of the White race looking for a problem that isn’t there.

For those of you who are upset about this proposed name change, let your voices be heard because it will happen if you stay quiet.
