Deepwood Foundation grants awarded
Deepwood Foundation, along with its community partners, awarded more than $17,400 in grants to children, adults and programs in the first half of 2020, according to a news release.
The Grants Committee approved the following to benefit individuals who have developmental disabilities and live in Lake County:
• iPads for virtual learning
• Communication apps for speech and language therapy
• A laptop
• An adaptive walker for mobility
• Adaptive smoke alarms • An adapted bicycle • Moving assistance • Emergency pandemic child care
• LCBDD/Deepwood residential activities for individuals living at the LCBDD/Deepwood Intermediate Care Facilities to support community outings, clothing needs and recreational activities
Grants for the iPads, in particular, were helpful this past quarter in light of the pandemic, the release detailed.
“You have no idea how much the iPad has helped me with my communications and ability to keep in touch with my family and friends during the COVID-19 stay-at-home order,” said Larry, one of the grant recipients, in the release.
The COVID Relief Effort, a fund to help with emergency expenses due to the COVID virus, was also approved and has assisted more than 25 individuals and families to date.
“Because of the generosity of our donors and sponsors, the Deepwood Foundation is able to assist individuals and families for items and opportunities not covered through traditional sources,” said Rikke Coach, Deepwood Foundation executive director in the release.
Third Quarter Grant Requests will be accepted through Aug. 1. For an application packet, visit deepwoodfoundation.org/
