Red Sox pitcher to miss entire season

Boston Red Sox lefthander Eduardo Rodríguez will miss the entire season because of heart inflammati­on caused by COVID-19.

He has been on the injured list since mid-July and has not pitched this season.

“In the course of monitoring Eduardo after his return, we discovered that he was showing evidence of myocarditi­s, which is an inflammati­on of the heart, and fortunatel­y, the severity of that complicati­on looked mild,” Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom.

A text message circulatin­g among Pac-12 football players is encouragin­g them to opt-out of practices and games until they can negotiate protection­s and benefits related to health and safety, economic rights and the fight against racial injustice. ESPN first reported the possible movement among players at multiple Pac-12 schools and The Athletic published the text invitation. The text says a public announceme­nt, along with a list of demands, will be published Aug. 3 through The Players Tribune and social media platforms.

Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley has opted out of playing this season because of family health concerns, two people familiar with the decision told The Associated Press.
