Farmpark Corn Maze now open
Annual attraction runs through Oct. 18
The annual Corn Maze at Lake Metroparks Farmpark opened last week to big numbers.
Then again, the staple attraction has always drawn a sizable amount of visitors over the years.
“We saw about 700 people Friday and Saturday,” said Event Manager Andy McGovern. “This year, we actually opened a month early to give families the opportunity to come out and enjoy. It’s been great so far, too, having the weekend to formally have this opening. The weather and the numbers have been fantastic. We’re open. Come on out.”
Typically themed — past years have included pirates and the Olympics — this year’s maize maze is without one, thanks to the international health emergency. However, Farmpark staff, embracing foresight and preparation, beginning with its reopening June 19, has accommodated the home-grown, three-acre, eight-foot cereal grain labyrinth with double-width paths, providing ample space for physical distancing.

“We’re nice and spread out here, and we’ve worked with the Lake County General Health District to ensure all protocols are maintained,” McGovern said. “Safety, of course, is our No. 1 priority when it comes to all our visitors and our staff.”
The maze, included with Farmpark admission, will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Oct.18, weather and conditions permitting. After the showcase, the corn is ground and used to feed Farmpark’s animals.
Per Gov. DeWine’s statewide facial covering order,
visitors ages ten and older are required to wear masks when indoors. This applies to any indoor space at Farmpark, including as guests pass through the Visitor Center upon entering and while utilizing any of the shared public restrooms.
Adapting to a “new normal” has allowed Farmpark to continue its recognized operations to a large degree.
“Of course it’s been challenging,” McGovern said, “but the staff has found great ways to continue to do things outside, that’s what we’re all about. Logistically, we’ve also implemented one-way paths, one of the few small changes the maze has seen.
“In addition, all of our animals are also on display, so a few restrictions, which we anticipated prior to our reopening, haven’t stopped family fun and we’re glad the community has responded so well.”
Lake Metroparks Farmpark is located at 8800 Euclid Chardon Road in Kirtland.
