Pet Food Pantry to hold fundraiser
Proceeds will be used to set up Memorial Fund in honor of Dick Goddard
The Willowick Pet Food Pantry announced it is setting up a memorial fund in Dick Goddard’s name with proceeds to be used for educational purposes.
“Dick Goddard has been such an inspiration to the Cleveland Area with his love of animals, outreach, and fundraisers. It is an honor to set up a memorial fund to continue his legacy,” said Eastlake City Councilman Mike Zuren, who is active with the pantry.
Goddard was a long-time meteorologist in Cleveland who was a prominent animal activist.
A 1960s-themed fundraiser will take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m., Aug. 22, at Sports Fanatics Restaurant, 31640 Vine Street in Willowick.
This fundraiser’s Educational Memorial Fund will benefit those who wish to adopt a pet, especially firsttime adopters. The pantry is now selecting the educational organizations who will provide this service and finalize the details of the fund.
The education will be in the form of online seminars, webinars, and one seminar will be specifically designed for first-time adopters.
“The pantry (and any animal lover) is so very grateful for all that Dick Goddard
has done for the wellbeing of animals, especially dogs, and cats, that the establishment of this Educational Memorial Fund is but a small way to say “thank you, Dick Goddard” for all you have done for the fourfooters,” Director Elvira Bellegoni said.
Once the details have been worked out, the pantry will publicize the Educational Memorial Fund through its Facebook page and local media. The start date is estimated to be Sept. 1.
The Willowick Pet Food Pantry has served pet owners in the Lake County and surrounding areas since 2016.
“Due to the overwhelming need this year and considering almost all fundraiser planned were canceled, we wanted to create a fundraiser for the pet food
pantry that would fit within the current restriction from the coronavirus pandemic,” Zuren said.
Sports Fanatics is donating 20% of the proceeds from sales to the organization. Local elected officials will be dressed up in’60’s costumes, answering phone orders, serving drinks, and running orders to take-out customers. There will be a costume contest, including people in their cars who order take-out.
They will take pictures and vote on the winners at the end of the fundraiser. The winners will receive baskets with dog or cat supplies and goodies (each valued at $75).
The goal of the event is to raise $5,000 for the pet food pantry to help pay for their expenses through the end of 2020.
