Another high-profile Mentor retail building is targeted for a makeover.

Property owner Aalls 2 of Cleveland, LLC seeks to give the 27-year-old multi-tenant structure at 9360 Mentor Ave., a uniform look.

The re-imaging was recently approved by Mentor Planning Commission for the site, at the southwest corner of Route 20 and Chillicothe Road.

Two portions of the roof line will be increased to a height of 24 feet to match the existing roof line to the east, along with material and other changes to conform to the corner building’s color.

The administration recommended that the lots be combined as part of building permit approval.

“We feel the corner is a highly visible location in the city and the old center needed to be improved to look new and have better curb appeal,” part owner Bob Brandon said.

The project is planned as a new tenant prepares to open in the former Starbucks space on the eastern end. A temporary sign for Jersey Mike’s Subs hangs on the front, and the eatery is anticipated to open Oct. 7, said owner Andrew Sample.

He noted the high-traffic area and the response of the Mentor community to Jersey Mike’s, which has another location on the west side of the city at 7671 Mentor Ave.

“I’m shocked at how busy that road is, even through COVID, so we are very excited to be there,” he said.

Starbucks vacated the space last year to open a store with a drive-through northeast corner. Penn Sta- ter in the newly renovated on the same intersection’s tion subs followed soon af- building.
