Johnson resigns school board
Cites ‘personal reasons’
The Euclid School Board is seeking applicants to fill the unexpired term of Steve Johnson Jr., who recently resigned for personal reasons.
The board will begin interviewing candidates soon and must name a replacement within 30 days, noted Board President Donna Sudar.
“The board will review all applications and decide on the replacement at its Sept. 14 meeting,” she said. “Additional information will be forthcoming. We thank Mr. Johnson for the invaluable time and effort that he has invested throughout his five years on the Euclid Board of Education.”
The newly appointed member will serve until Dec. 31, 2021.
If the appointed member desires to continue serving beyond that date, he or she must run in the Nov. 2, 2021 General Election.
Johnson, 50, was first elected to the school board in November 2015 and was re-elected in 2019.
Johnson served the district as a legislative liaison, sharing and reporting on education developments, laws, and directives originating with the Ohio Statehouse and Ohio Department of Education.
He also served on the Euclid Recreation Commission,
supporting additional athletics and recreational opportunities for students.
According to the district, Johnson was instrumental in keeping the board updated on educational developments.
“As an active board member, coach and father, Steve advocated not only for his children, but for the thousands of students enrolled in our schools,” said Superintendent Christopher Papouras.
Those interested in serving on the Euclid School Board should visit www.euclidschools.org for an application and questionnaire.
According to Ohio law, people serving on Ohio school boards must be 18 years old, district residents and registered voters.
