Painesville Speedway will host the Autumn Brawl Cavalcade this weekend at 500 Fairport Nursery Road. As a result, the speedway requested to extend the Painesville Township noise ordinance on Sept. 19 from 11 p.m. to 12 a.m. Trustees agreed to extend the noise ordinance at their Sept. 15 meeting.

Painesville Township Administrator Mike Manary said the request from the Painesville Speedway came specifically for the weekend’s event because of the event’s popularity.

“They have asked if they could have an

extension for this coming Saturday for an hour because it’s their biggest event of the year,” Manary said.

Painesville Speedway owner Randy Maggio said this weekend’s event is a three-day event that that will consist of eight to 10 divisions.

Maggio said most events generally have five to six divisions, and even those events have seen an increase in attendance this year.

“It’s pretty tough to get to get everything in by 11 o’clock,” Maggio said. “Last year we averaged about 60 cars. This year we’re averaging about 80. This weekend there’s probably going to be at least 100 plus cars here.”

In the past, Manary said the speedway has been “good about following a noise ordinance and ending their shows or events at 11 p.m,” which contributed to the trustees agreeing to extend the noise ordinance for an hour.

Painesville Township Trustee Gabe Cicconetti said the relationship between the Painesville Speedway and the township has been good, especially since the track came into new ownership in 2017.

“If somebody else in the community came for a special event and asked for an extension, we would probably grant it,” Cicconetti said. “As good as [Painesville Speedway] cooperated with the township, we felt it was right to do the same for them.”

Maggio said the event will follow COVID-19 guidelines with social distancing throughout the property. He also said the facility will hold about 45 percent of maximum capacity.
