SWAT team assists in arrest of Painesville man
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team Oct. 15 assisted in the arrest of a man who allegedly barricaded himself in a Painesville home.
Dale C. Lucas was facing trial in Lake County Common Pleas Court on fifth-degree charges of assault and obstructing official business. Lucas, who was out of jail on bond, did not appear Oct. 14 for the second day of his trial, according to court records.
Lucas’ bond was revoked and a warrant was issued for his arrest, court records show. The U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force on Oct. 15 located Lucas at a home on North Settlers Lane in Painesville, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jeff Sherwood said.
Sherwood said that when task force members got to the home they found that Lucas was “basically barricaded inside.” The Lake County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was called in for assistance.
Sherwood said the SWAT team was able to get Lucas on the phone and eventually he surrendered without incident. No injuries were re
ported, Sherwood said. Painesville police also assisted. The trial continued without Lucas present. He was found guilty of the assault charge and was acquitted of the obstructing official business charge, bailiff Brian Jackson said. Lake County Common Pleas Court records show that Lucas is set to be sentenced by Judge Pat Condon Nov. 13. According to the indictment, Lucas was accused of assaulting a corrections officer at the Lake County Jail in a Jan. 28 incident.
