The Rich brothers of Fairport are at it again on the bowling lanes.

On Dec. 19, 2019, Jerry Rich — the coach of the successful Fairport High School boys and girls bowling teams — tied what it is believed to be a Lake County record when he completed an

878 series. That included games of 299, 300 and 279.

T he Rich brot her s sa id Kevin Bovington set the county record of 878 at Scores Fun Center in Painesville some time ago.

That 878 broke Rich’s personal record of an 869 on Jan. 6, 2017, when he went 300-300269. It included 32 strikes in a row.

Speaking of back-to-back 300 games, Jerr y ’s brother Brian added to his and the brother’s impressive bowling resumes on Oct. 19 at Rich Lanes in Fairport. For the third time in his career, he went back to back posting bowling’s magical number of 300. It included an opening 192, then two straight 300 games.

The 300 games were the 125th and 126th for Brian, who on March 11, 2016 posted a careerhigh 867 series (300-267-300).

Brian accomplished the feat after Jerry gave him a new 13-pound ball that evening. He finished his Oct. 19 series with 28 strikes in a row.

“My mind was kind of out it (that first game),” said Brian, who with his brother, is coowner of Rich Lanes.

“Kind of just going through the motions. Plus, I had to fix a lane after the first game.”

There’s not much left for the Rich brothers to

accomplish at their bowling alley, where they understandably bowl the majority of their games. All that might remain is a perfect 900 series for either.

“That’s the ultimate goal,” said Brian. “If it ever happens, it will be because of luck.”
